On the farm (2) : Toulouse Goose

Description

In the same farm where I photographed the brown goat (see picture below), I spotted a Toulouse Goose this time.

This beautiful bird is a breed of domesticated goose originating near Toulouse, France.
It’s a very old breed one and the name has been recorded back as far as 1555.

Very typical is its large dewlap (= a longitudinal flap of skin that hangs beneath the lower jaw or neck).

The Toulouse Goose is the breed most used for the production of……. foie gras !
However, the local farmer assured me that his goose is not ill-treated and has a completely natural life.

Dutch name: Toulouse gans
German name : Toulouser Gans
Latin name : Anser anser f. domestica
