On the farm (8) : Red Ardenner turkey

Description

The Red Ardenner turkey is the result of a crossbreed between a black turkey and a wild Mexican turkey in the 16th century.
Nowadays, this animal is on the edge of extinction as only a handful of people is maintaining the breed.

The shot shows a female specimen, but with her large featherless head full of fleshy warty growths and her throat full of red wattles, she is not directly 'the most beautiful girl'…..:-))

Dutch name : Rode Ardenner kalkoen
German name : Kupfer-Puten
Latin name : Meleagris gallopavo gallopavo

This shot was made on a biological farm in my neighbourhood.
