Castle ‘Ter Rijst’ at Heikruis (Belgium)

A first castle was built on this spot around 1225 as replacement of an ancient fortified edifice.

In 1480 the castle was transformed into an impressive stronghold with 4 massive corner towers.

400 years later, the castle was remodeled again in neo classical style this time with a triumphal arch with 4 Doric columns and with the demolishing of the then dilapidated towers (some historians say the castle was hugely maimed by that intervention).
