The Middle Ages (116) : Travelling Dentist

Description

This series is an attempt to illustrate how life was going on in the Middle Ages.

***
This inclement looking man was a travelling dentist.

The middle ages was truly a period of suffering for those having toothaches. The most common treatment during that time was having a tooth brutally removed.

This tended to be done by a travelling dentist (with all kinds of cruel pliers and rusty hooks) and with no anaesthetic, unless you were drunk in advanceā€¦.. :-))

Photographed at medieval festival of castle Sterckshof (Deurne, Belgium)
