Swamp Hike (11)

Description

This shot is the last one in my “swamp hike series” and shows another landscape part of the swampy peat moors of ‘Hohes Venn’, the greatest (4500 ha) and oldest National Park of Belgium and the most unique nature biotop in the land.

The whole area might look as an innocent meadow, but it is 100% pure swamp ! This desolate swamp can only be traversed by using the wooden paths made by the local foresters (a daring exploit). It is nearly impossible to leave those wooden paths, as the swamp starts immediately to suck your feet and legs into the depth and the more you struggle to get out, the more the swamp sucks……
This makes swamp hiking a unique experience.

Perhaps some of you may wonder if I left the secure wooden path to take this shot.
Not true. I was standing on a crossroad of wooden paths.
Yes, crossroads exist, even in the middle of the swamp…….!
