Swamp of ice and snow (1)

Description

Due to the local sub-alpine micro climate, there was, 3 weeks long, day and night continuous frost and a snow carpet of 45 cm. on 'Hohes Venn', the greatest and oldest National Park of Belgium and the most unique nature biotope in the land (altitude: 694 meters above sea level)

Under the great mass of snow lies a whole area of vast and desolate swamps.

My shot was made 8 days ago on the last cold frosty day over there. The melting of the snow started the next day (and is still going on, snow depth today : still 15 cm.)

Location : Mont Rigi (Hohes Venn, Belgium)
