Yellow-necked Wood Mouse

Description

While hiking on the snow covered swamps of ‘Hohes Venn’, I spotted this little yellow-necked wood mouse crawling through the deep snow.

This animal does not hibernate, is active all year round but usually only at night. The specimen that I shot however was so hungry in these bitter cold conditions, that it was desperately looking for some food in full daylight.

Dutch name : Grote Bosmuis (ook Geelhalsbosmuis genoemd)
German name : Gelbhalsmaus
Latin name : Apodemus flavicollis

Location : Mont Rigi (Hohes Venn, Belgium)
