The Fungi World (203) : Bolete Mould

Something very special this time : a fungus growing on a fungus !
It’s the Bolete Mould : a white wooly mould, one of a small number of fungi that parasitize other fungi.

The mould spreads across the entire fungus (in this case a Birch Polypore), sometimes engulfing or mummifying it entirely and distorting it into something nearly unrecognizable.
At the end of its life, the mould turns from white to golden yellow.

German name : Goldschimmel
Latin name : Hypomyces chrysospermus
