The Fungi World (217) : Spongiporus fragilis

Description

A weird shaped fungus this one. Not mothers finest, I agree, but the slug doesn’t seem to bother and is nibbling lustily.
Pure white in its young stage, but when touched, it generates immediately yellow brown staining.

It’s a rare species that grows only on dead wood of pine and spruce.
Stands unfortunately on the Red List of vulnerable and threatened species !

(for one reason or another, there exists no English name for this fungus)
