The black birch bolete is (like his brother, the common birch bolete – see picture below) a typical deciduous forest fungus that grows nearly always in the neighbourhood of birches.
Those 2 species do not differ morphologically much, except for the fact that the cap colour is dark brown to blackish.
However, the black birch bolete is much more rare !
