Bei einem derzeitigen Bestand von etwa 130 Tieren befindet sich die größte Population im Brandenburg . Weltweit finden sich noch knapp 50.000 Großtrappen.Mit einem Gewicht von bis zu 18 Kilogramm stellen die Trappen die wohl schwerste flugfähige Vogelart der Welt dar. Großtrappen sind Weltweit vom aussterben bedroht.
