The Living Forest (6) : Long-horned Grasshopper

Description

Insects play an important role in the living forest (pollinate process, natural housekeeping, food for songbirds,…)
Most of them can be found in the open spaces, like this sunbathing grasshopper, belonging to the Tettigoniidae family (known in American English as shield-backed katydids and in British English as bush-crickets).

It’s a Long-horned Grasshopper, which lives mainly in Central Europe and is a VERY RARE species in Belgium ! (I’m very glad I could shoot one).

Dutch name : Zaagsprinkhaan (familie der Sabelsprinkhanen).
German name : Laubholz-Säbelschreck (aus der Familie der Laubheuschrecken)
Latin name : Barbitistes serricauda
